MUNISING — The Marquette Township building and grounds caretaker got more than he bargained for when he requested the township buy a snowblower for his use. Instead of approving a $904 purchase as requested, the Marquette Township board approved Tuesday the purchase of a machine costing nearly $200 more. Caretaker Lou Hutchings has shoveled snow by hand the past couple of years, but this year’s heavy snow prompted a request for a snowblower, according to a written request presented to the board. Business Manager Kevin Hamann recommended the board buy the $904 model from Sears. Instead, the board opted to buy a John Deere machine from Honda of Marquette, with a more powerful engine, a wider path than the Sears model, and with an electric start. Hamann said the Honda shop’s location in the township played a role in the board’s decision.
