MARQUETTE — Janice Maki, North Billings, Gwinn, was selected as the recipient of the Dr. Sharon Janzen Award at Northern Michigan University. The award is given to a nursing student the NMU faculty feel has demonstrated the most professional growth. Maki graduated at midyear commencement. She works at Marquette General Hospital in the oncology unit, and plans to stay in the area until June, when she will be married. Maki said she hopes to find a job at the University of Virginia Health Science Center. She is the daughter of Dale and Ann Marie Maki of Gwinn.

MARQUETTE — An in-service training meeting will be held at the Thompson Fish Hatchery for all Upper Peninsula conservation department fisheries personnel beginning at noon Monday and lasting until noon Wednesday, according to James A. Scully, Marquette, regional fisheries supervisor for the department. Also in attendance will be M.J. DeBoer, Lansing, supervisor of fish management, and C.T. Yoder, Lansing, supervisor of fish hatcheries, and Dr. D. Anderson of the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery. Topics to be discussed will be: Care of eggs and fish, use of fish toxicants, management procedures and policies, trout lake management, lake and stream improvement, selective breeding of trout and trout nutrition.
