MENOMINEE–A document which required 26 days to travel in the mails from Daggett to Menominee finally arrived in time to save the cost of an expensive court action which would have been lost.

The papers were important because one of the parties who had signed the document was dead. They involved a considerable land property. After days of waiting for the letter to arrive, Atty. George Barstow finally took the matter up with the post office department and an inspector was assigned to the case.

The letter was found in a supposedly empty mail sack in the mail bad depository in the Chicago post office. Loss of the papers would have necessitated a lengthy and expensive circuit court action to prove the contents of the papers involved.

Accompanying the envelope containing the legal document was another piece of mail which was “lost” in the mails at the same time.
