MARQUETTE — An agreement to finance construction of a parking lot behind businesses on the 600 block of North Third Street is to be addressed tonight by the Marquette City Commission. The proposal calls for the purchase and demolition of a house at 212 W. Ohio St. and a lot construction at a total cost of $54,088. The city would loan the funds to property owners at 10 percent interest over 10 years. The parking lot will serve a proposed commercial building on the 600 block of North Third Street and several existing businesses.

GWINN — Workmen are installing telephone switching equipment in the recently completed community dial telephone office at Gwinn it was announced today by Michigan Bell Telephone Co. John C. Gerling, Marquette area manager for the company, said the project will provide equipment to establish 1,400 telephone numbers. The office is located at the northeast corner of County Road 553 and Ejj Road. It will not be necessary to change any telephone numbers when the new equipment is placed in operation, Gerling said. The new office will replace a trailer equipment office now being used to supply telephone service to the Gwinn area.Cost of the $230,500 project includes land, building, central office equipment, and outside plant. The Western Electric Co., the manufacturing and supply arm of the Bell System, is installing the equipment and will test it before it is put into operation. The project is scheduled for completion in October.
