MARQUETTE — Jim Lori, a native of Norway, Mich., recently was named the general manager of Marquette First Federal Credit Union, 827 N. Third St. He replaces Larry Eveland, who retired after heading the institution for seven years. The credit union, which began 37 years ago as a service to government employees, opened its services to the general public several years ago. Lori, 29, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ferris State University and then worked in Marquette before starting with the Norway Community Credit Union. He was vice president of the Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union in Escanaba for a short time before accepting his new position in Marquette. The Marquette First Federal Credit Union has assets of $8 million. It employs seven people. Lori said he plans to create a real estate lending program at the credit union by next year, something that hasn’t been available at the business for several years.

ISHPEMING — The police are at work on clues which it is hoped will lead to the arrest of a number of petty thieves here. Recently, several chicken fanciers have noted losses in their flocks, and gardeners report that neighbors have taken vegetables and green stuffs at night. Residents who have cultivated flower gardens also have complained of the theft of blooms.
