MARQUETTE — John R. Ogren of the physical sciences department at Northern Michigan College will attend a summer institute for college teachers of science at the University of California under appointment by the National Science Foundation. Appointments and stipends were awarded to college physics, chemistry, and mathematics teachers on the basis of past teaching records, ability to undertake advanced academic work, and individual study and past academic records. The institute is designed to stimulate professional growth, provide personal contact with prominent scientists from the Berkeley campus, and foster mutual understanding of common and individual problems among teachers and scientists. Ogren’s individual study will center around recent theoretical work in the electrical and thermal properties of intermetallic alloy phases. A member of Northern’s staff since 1957, Ogren attended the Case Institute of Technology as a General Electric Science Fellow last summer. He graduated with honor from Northern in 1955 and received his master’s degree from Iowa State college where he held appointment as a physicist with the department of physics and the Atomic Energy Commission.
