NATIONAL MINE — The Tilden Township board instructed its attorney Tuesday to revamp the township’s unenforced 1974 dog ordinance. Township Supervisor Eugene Ostola said a new ordinance should be ready by April 11, but the board may call a special meeting if it’s completed before then. The ordinance is a response to a continuing stray dog problem in Tilden Township and the March 2 death of a 5-year-old who was killed by two dogs in National Mine. The township also advertised for a trained animal control officer, and is posting notices instructing township residents to keep their dogs under control, Ostola said. In a related matter, American Legion Post 114, Greenwood Location, is sponsoring a benefit dance this weekend for the family of the deceased. The dance will feature music by several area bands and a potluck dinner.

MARQUETTE — Talented vocalists and pianists and an accomplished young trumpet player will present a variety of well-loved music at tomorrow night’s regular bi-monthly meeting of the Saturday Music Club at the Federated Clubhouse, according to an announcement by Mrs. A. L. Swinton, program chairman. An added attraction will be a talk by Mrs. Swinton on interesting aspects of her recent world tour and her showing of a number of colored slides of scenes she visited. Opening the program will be two vocal numbers, “Thy Sweet Singing,” Olmstead, and Engel’s “Sea Shell” by Miss Judith Quayle, a music major at Northern Michigan College. Mrs. R.B. Davidson, Negaunee, will then play two piano selections, Sowerby’s “Sunday Drenched Palms” and “Pines at Dusk.” The single trumpet feature will be rendered by Barbara Beck, also a NMC student, who will play Fitzgerald’s “Introduction and Fantasy.” In conclusion, Mrs. S. J. LaFond and Mrs. Munro Tibbetts will comprise a vocal duo, singing some of the folk songs dear to the American heart.
