ESCANABA–A long-range plan to revitalize the city’s downtown based on a major waterfront redevelopment has been unveiled by a team of planners hired by Escanaba’s Downtown Development Authority. The proposal includes a 600-700 slip marina, a cultural and civic corridor with a new city hall, a variety of housing units, retail and office space, a waterfront hotel and harbor walks linked to Ludington Park. John Stockham, project director for the planning company Camiros Ltd., said that the project would cost about $22.4 million in public funds, in addition to private investment in the area. “This is a very, very ambitious plan,” Stockham said, “but we believe it is achievable. Stockham said it may take 20-30 years to implement the plan, but he urged the community to get started as soon as possible.
