ISHPEMING — Aviation Electrician Third Class Valgene I. Dobson, son of Gerry and Joy Dobson, Ishpeming, recently returned from a six-month tour of duty aboard aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the western Pacific and Indian Oceans. The Enterprise was involved in actions on April 18 in the Persian Gulf before returning to its home port of Alameda, Calif. Dobson is a 1986 graduate of Ishpeming High School. He joined the Navy in November of that year and is currently stationed at the naval air base on Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington State.

MARQUETTE — Marquette County resort, motel and hotel operators are conducting an intensive survey to find out how they can better serve tourists. The survey is being conducted in cooperation with Michigan State University, MSU’s county extension office furnished questionnaire sheets which are passed along to tourists Marquette County business people. Tourists are asked what brought them into the area, the length of their vacation and their preference as to accommodations. They are also questioned about prices, services and plans for a return visit. Operators have reported a good response to the questionnaire. The Marquette County survey is part of an Upper Peninsula study. It is being conducted by the U. P. Extension Center of MSU as a service to the area’s tourist industry. The questionnaires will be tabulated and a special report will be made on Marquette County findings.
