NEGAUNEE — That dogs again are harrying deer and rabbits of the city is the substance of reports brought in by berry pickers last week. Several family parties picking wild strawberries in open fields last Thursday heard the barking of dogs and saw several of the animals running along the edge of the woods, evidently upon the trail of a deer or rabbit. One of the children later found a portion of a small deer’s leg. Conservation officers operating in this district have warned dog owners against permitting their animals to run in game areas, particularly during the spring and early summer when deer and rabbits are caring for their young. The practice of allowing dogs to run loose and worry game during the spring and summer will be discouraged by the shooting on sight of all such animals, wardens declare.
