MARQUETTE – Gardner Bess rapped out a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Vango’s Lounge to a 4-3 victory over Little Caesars in Central Superior Fastpitch League softball action at Marquette’ Hurley Field Wednesday evening. Tim Bullock reached base on a single and moved to second following a walk to Dave Dionne. Vango’s jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when Greg Buzzo scored on a sacrifice fly to Bob Rabitaille. First baseman Tom Mogush of Little Caesars caught the ball in time to nip Gerard Haley of Vango’s in the second inning. Little Caesars took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, when Matt Ghiardi and Rob Bergman singled to open and both scored on a single by Roger Bergman. “With the pitchers we had going today, I knew it would be a one-run ball game,” said Vango’s assistant manager, Tom Bullock, whose team now holds an 11-1 league record on the season. ” The win puts us two games up in the standings.”

PALMER – Fourteen houses already have been moved and placed on foundations in the new location being developed by the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron company in the east end of the city near the Mass mine, and work is being rushed on the transfer of the remaining 25 structures included in the moving contract let to A.J. Linesley, Hibbing, Minn. Despite delays occasioned by inclement weather, the work has progressed satisfactorily and is anticipated to be completed by early autumn. With the completion of this year’s work, there will be 40 homes in the new location, 22 of which were moved last year. Foundation work is going forward rapidly. Crews were at work yesterday upon the twenty-first foundation. Gardeners have added lawns and planted shade trees. Sidewalks and curbs have been built. Plumbers, carpenters and masons are kept constantly on the grounds to make repairs as soon as the houses are placed.
