NEGAUNEE — The Marquette County Tobacco or Health Community Coalition has completed a manual, “Clinical Opportunities for Smoking Cessation” to help physicians help patients quit the habit.

“Smoking causes many illnesses which are difficult for doctors to cure or control,” said Dr. Lisa Fleischer, physician representative to the coalition. The guide, which is being sent to every doctor in Marquette County, presents patients with many strategies offered in any clinical setting. There is also a “prescription pad” doctors can give patients, listing smoking cessation programs. George Sedlacek, coalition organizer, said, “The manual is the result of hard work by several coalition members. The volunteer department at Marquette General Hospital spent hours putting the guide together.” Jeanne Baumann from the Marquette Family Health Center and Mary Williams from Bell Memorial Hospital are arranging for the guide’s distribution.
