MARQUETTE — Fog horns can be invaluable aids to navigation when the weather dictates, but are obnoxiously bothersome when skies are clear. That fact has been echoing in the ears of Lake Superior shoreline inhabitants and boaters in the vicinity of Presque Isle since spring, but hopefully it won’t last much longer. The new fog horn installed in May is malfunctioning, said Senior Chief Robert Sanderson at the Marquette Coast Guard Station. “When fog rolls in it sets the horn off, and when the fog leaves, the horn is supposed to stop,” Sanderson said. “But there are still some bugs in it and it’s not shutting off.”

MARQUETTE — Five of seven samples of milk purchased by Dr. L.L. Youngquist, city health officer, for examination since the first of July have been recorded as “clean,” while two have been “fair.” None have revealed “dirty” milk. After milk is filtered through special cloth discs, it is graded under one of three classes, depending upon the amount of sediment.
