MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Airport could become the home of two more hangars soon. The county board Tuesday approved and sent to the state Department of Commerce an application for a grant to help fund the $173,000 project that will see the construction of an extra 6,000 yards of apron area near the existing Simmons Airlines hangars. Airport Director Charles Hohman said the apron is being constructed to prepare the way for hangar development. It will be up to Simmons and Northern Michigan University to build the hangars once the extra apron is constructed. James Suksi, dean of the school of technology and applied sciences, said Northern is going to be starting a new aviation program, which will eventually require hangar space at the airport.
