Biosolids spill noted

MARQUETTE — A contractor hauling treated dewatered biosolids used as a soil amendment out to a field in Little Lake had a spill just outside the treatment plant on U.S. 41 Thursday morning, Mark O'Neill, director of Municipal Utilities, reported. In a written statement, O'Neill said the truck's tailgate was not properly secured and an estimated four cubic yards of biosolids spilled. MDOT seeking public comment on proposed M-28 safety improvements in Au Train

AU TRAIN - The Michigan Department of Transportation invites the public to comment on the planned 2027 safety project on M-28 at Au Train Forest Lake Road in Au Train in Alger County. MDOT plans to widen the existing roadway to add a center left-turn lane at the intersection and improve drainage. To allow for grading and upgrades to the signal, the department is proposing to obtain a 0.012-acre permanent fee right of way on each of the southwest and southeast corners at the M-28/Au Train Forest Lake Road intersection. Negaunee VFW Memorial Day events set

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee VFW 3165, located at 208 Gold St. Negaunee, is inviting the public to its annual Memorial Day Parade, Memorial Services and open house on Monday, May 25. A parade will start promptly at 10 a.m. at the corner of Iron and Gold streets, continuing east to Pioneer Avenue and turning north to Main Street, traveling east to McKenzie Avenue then north to Case Street and traveling west down to the post office where the parade will end. Marquette City Commission meeting on Tuesday

MARQUETTE — Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the upcoming regular meeting of the Marquette City Commission will be held on Tuesday, May 26. The meeting will take place in city commission chambers of Marquette City Hall and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
 As a reminder, most city offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Legion post 44 Memorial Day activities on tap

MARQUETTE — The Richard M. Jopling American Legion post 44 will pay tribute to the women and men who gave their lives for this country. Two services will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. A 9:30 a.m. service will be held at Park Cemetery, followed by a 10:30 a.m. service at Holy Cross Cemetery in the city of Marquette.
