Update on Marquette’s 4th of July Parade 2026 set

MARQUETTE — This year's Marquette July 4th Parade is special since the Nation's 250th birthday is being celebrated. The theme for the parade is One Nation Indivisible – 250 Years. The parade start time is 2 p.m. at McClellan Avenue and West Washington Street. Attendees should plan to arrive at 1:15 p.m. or earlier as the nearby streets are closed then. Community schools graduates 29 students

ISHPEMING — On May 13, at St. John’s School in Ishpeming, 29 students received their high school diplomas from the Ishpeming-Negaunee-NICE Adult and Alternative Education Program. During the 58 years of service, the program has graduated 1,792 adults, according to Community Schools Director William Hartman. Graduate speakers for the class of 2026 were Lora Longtine Houghton of the Negaunee Public School District and Rheah Ace Payne of the NICE Community School District. Memorial Day services at Ishpeming Cemetery

ISHPEMING — Memorial Day services, honoring servicemen and women killed in action, will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Various veteran's groups and auxiliaries will be conducting and participating. In case of rain, a service will be held at the American Legion in west Ishpeming.

Plant, Pies & Summer Buys around corner

SKANDIA — Emanuel Lutheran Church of Skandia, 9812 U.S. 41, invites the public to its annual "Plant, Pies & Summer Buys!" from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Available will be vegetable and flower seedlings, perennials, house plants, homemade pies and summer buys, handmade crafts, quilts, gently used gardening tools and equipment, gardening decor and a raffle for handmade quilts and handcrafted items with the drawing in November. All proceeds will go toward the digital mapping of the Emanuel and Haglund cemeteries.

Minor sewage overflow reported in Marquette

MARQUETTE — A city of Marquette Public Works crew Thursday afternoon responded to a small sanitary sewer overflow, according to Mark O'Neill, director of Municipal Utilities. The location of the overflow was the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Magnetic Street. It started at 4:30 p.m. and ended at 5:30 p.m. An estimated 15-20 gallons was released. The overflow was confined to the grassy area around the manhole. No impact to waterways took place. Cleanup included vactoring up the impacted area and disinfecting with barn lime.
