LSSA to stage Art Talk: Painting with pastels

MARQUETTE -- Kathy Binoniemi will present an Art Talk: Painting with Pastels at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in Studio 1 of the Peter White Public Library. Binoniemi is well known for beautiful landscapes executed in the challenging medium of soft pastels.
Though pastel painting has been around since the 16th century, it is not as well known as watercolor or oil painting. Come and learn about the different varieties of pastels and substrates as Binoniemi demonstrates the techniques for applying these tools.
Binoniemi is a local artist who has been painting exclusively with pastels since discovering the medium about six years ago. Before turning to pastel painting, Binoniemi worked in a variety of mediums. Her pencil drawing of a Model A Ford is in the permanent collection at the Henry
Ford Museum in Dearborn.
Binoniemi says, "I hope attendees leave wanting to know more about pastels and with a desire to try the medium themselves."
