Local Wellness Lions Club holding benefit concert at Blackrocks Brewery

MARQUETTE -- A local start-up organization is assembling a number of talented local musicians for a night of music at Blackrocks Brewery in Marquette.

The Marquette Arts & Music Wellness Lions Club will hold its fundraiser celebration from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. MAMWLC is an official Lions Club under Lions Club International and a sister club to the Marquette Lions Club. The club is a Lions Specialty Club dedicated to bringing wellness to the community through the arts.

With its mission to reach people in the community – including veterans, seniors, people in recovery, patients, family and caregivers - MAMWLC selected Veteran's Day to pay homage to veterans. A portion of money raised that evening will go to a Veteran's Support Group that meets at Great Lakes Recovery Centers in Negaunee.

"Musicians from our organization have performed at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans a number of times and the response has been terrific," said Doug Davis, president of the MAMWLC. "We felt strongly about picking Veteran's Day as our next fundraising event. We encourage the community to come out to an evening of music performed by a number of talented musicians who are part of our club."

MAMWLC holds a unique distinction in that it is not aware of any other service club in the world that focuses on delivering creative expression experiences for wellness and healing.

Formed in June 2025, the club has visited and performed music at nursing homes, behavioral health centers, Jacobetti and others.

At the benefit concert, QR codes will be prominently displayed at Blackrocks Brewery, along with buckets for people to give charitable gifts. Proceeds from the event will help the MAMWLC with expenses for community outreach, travel, marketing and philanthropy. MAWLC is dedicated to providing funding to organizations that align with its mission.

"We invite the community to come to Blackrocks, hear some great local music and see how music, art and service can come together to make a difference," Davis said.

MAMWLC currently has 34 members and is looking for new members who wish to support its cause. To learn more about MAMWLC, visit its website at www.mamwlc.org.
