MARQUETTE -- is a local watercolor artist inspired by the quiet beauty that surrounds us every day. She is largely self-taught but has studied through online art schools and workshops with acclaimed artists, including Mary White.

She is the guest artist at the Zero Degrees Art Gallery for November. She is showing landscapes, portraits and some delightful paintings of disgruntled birds. She is especially interested in the effects of light on her subject matter, whether it be a landscape or a painting of one of her grandchildren.

Her portraits are especially pleasing and full of life. She will also do portraits by commission. Her name is easily recognized, as her family business is Lawry’s Pasties. That is her husband’s side of the family. Before devoting herself to art, she worked as an obstetrical nurse.

Now she can focus more on her painting, and her work is stunning. There will be a reception for her from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Zero Degrees Art Gallery, 525 N. Third St., in Marquette. The reception is free and light refreshments are provided.

Starting at /week.
