MARQUETTE -- A workshop featuring Tai Chi and Qi Gong will be held Saturday morning at the Morgan Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 201 E. Ridge St., Marquette.
The workshop, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, will introduce participants to Tai Chi and Qi Gong, gentle forms of exercise that emphasize movement, balance, flexibility and relaxation.
Tai Chi has increasingly been incorporated into medical centers and hospital settings across North America. According to organizers, the practice can help regulate the immune system, promote the body's relaxation response, and improve balance and flexibility.
No previous experience is required. Jon and Diana Magnuson will serve as instructors. A portion of the workshop will focus on the Tai Chi Yang Ball Form. Participants also will be served a healthy, nutritious brunch during the morning session.
The workshop is sponsored by The Cedar Tree Institute, with proceeds benefiting the institute's ongoing tree-planting initiative across the Upper Peninsula.
