MUNISING--Miss Barbara Pangborn, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pangborn of this city, Sunday morning saved the lives of four of her cousins during a fire which destroyed the seven-room home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thunander, 213 E. Chocolay St. According to Fire Chief George MacKinzie, Miss Pangborn, who was spending the night at the home of her uncle and aunt, was awakened at about 2:30 a.m. by heavy smoke which had filled the bedroom. She immediately awoke the four Thunander children, ranging in age from 9 to 14, and led them out of the burning building. When they were outside, she noticed the youngest of the children was missing. Without thought of personal danger, she rushed back into the blazing house, went upstairs where she found the child, and led her to safety.

MARQUETTE--The derrick boat "America" has commenced dredging operations south of the breakwater in Presque Isle harbor, moving in from its former unsheltered position at the southwest end of the breakwater. Warning to all Lake Superior mariners regarding the Presque Isle harbor work has gone out from the branch hydrographic office at Duluth. Shipmasters have been cautioned to navigate with care in the harbor and not to rely on the dredge being where it was last reported. The "America" and the steel tug Jno. E. Meyer, of the Barrett & Record company fleet, are handling the work, which calls for dredging approximately 380,000 cubic yards of material in the harbor. The 2,000-ton barge is equipped with a T700-horsepower motor. Total cost of the project will be about $142,509.
