MARQUETTE -- Twenty-year terms in federal penitentiaries were meted out here today to three men who robbed the Bark River State Bank last June 27. Sentences were imposed by Judge W. Walace Kent in U.S. District Court here this morning to Robert Wayne Ross, 35, Reed City, and Roy Edwin Waldo, 25, and his brother, Clarence Elmon Waldo, 32, both of Baldwin. The three men had pleaded guilty to the charge when they were arraigned in federal court here a week ago. They admitted taking about $33,000 in a daring daylight holdup of the bank. Ross was arrested Aug. 12, in Panama City, Fla., after escaping from the Superior, Wis., jail July 4. The Waldos were arrested in Portland, Ore., July 26. All three men had been transferred to Marquette Sept. 15 to await arraignment.

MARQUETTE -- A warning to Marquette boys who are a bit early in their celebration of Hallowe'en was issued yesterday by Chief of Police T.T. Hurley after many complaints had been received from residents in all parts of the city. "We don't mind the boys having a little fun on Hallowe'en night," the chief explained, "but this idea of starting the celebration 3 weeks too soon is all wrong. Pre-Hallowe'en pranksters will find that the police department is serious in issuing this warning against the disturbances which have been going on for the last few nights." Soaped windows, tipped woodpiles and scattered debris are the early signs of the approach of Hallowe'en. These signs already have made their appearance and indicate "trouble ahead" for the perpetrators. Marquette residents, in the chief's opinion, do not mind being compelled to wash their windows after Hallowe'en, but when soap appears regularly on panes of glass they begin to feel a bit "peeved" and ask police action.
