MARQUETTE -- Forty-five young men have been called for pre-induction physical examinations, the Marquette County Draft Board reports. Mrs. Frances Drake, Marquette, clerk in charge of the board's office, Post Office Building, said the group will comprise the second portion of the 198th pre-induction call under the 1948 Draft Act as amended. The young men have been ordered to report to the Federal Building here by 11 a.m., Monday, and will go by chartered bus to Milwaukee by 11:30 a.m.

ISHPEMING -- The first week of the bird season has borne out statements of the pessimists--there aren't many birds. A modest sized army of hunters went to the woods the last few days and got a lot of nice exercise and good fresh air. But birds? Only a few. The sports goods stores, where the boys hang out, have failed to hear even one good hunting story. Some of the more seasoned hunters are bringing in a brace of birds, and a few have reported getting four. Up to this morning not one had been heard of a hunter filling his day's quota of five birds. The hunting, as anticipated, is better south of Ishpeming, in the Escanaba river section. Several prairie chicken have been brought down, but these, too, are scarce.
