MARQUETTE -- The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center's planned opening for its Barnes-Hecker Disaster Exhibition has been postponed by one week, according to Northern Michigan University.

Originally planned for Saturday, the opening of "100 Years of Tears: Barnes-Hecker Mining Disaster" will instead take place at 1 p.m. the following Saturday, Oct. 24 in the Beaumier's gallery located in 223 Harden Hall on the campus of NMU.

Director and curator Dan Truckey said the center had not received enough of the display panels intended for the exhibit in time for its original opening date, due to supply line issues with printing material.

Following its delayed opening, the exhibition will be on display until April 3. It is free and open to the public.

The Beaumier Center's hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
