NEGAUNEE -- The city of Negaunee will offer two citywide leaf pickup dates in November through its contract with GFL, with collections scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2, and Monday, Nov. 16.
Residents must bag all leaves and place them at the curb in front of their homes, along the edge of the road, by 7 a.m. on the scheduled pickup dates. Bagged leaves must be kept separate from regular trash so collection crews can properly dispose of the materials.
Leaves that are not at the curb by 7 a.m. may not be collected. Crews will not pick up bagged leaves from alleys.
City officials also remind residents that leaves must not be raked or placed in the street. Leaves can clog storm sewers and cause flooding during rainfall.
Compost site available year-round
Negaunee residents may also dispose of yard waste at the city’s compost site on Marquette County Road 480, across from the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The site is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless otherwise posted. Access may be limited during inclement weather.
Accepted materials include grass clippings, sod, garden debris, and brush and tree limbs up to 2 inches in diameter.
Residents who bring yard waste in bags must empty the bags and place them in the provided trash cans.
Dumping compost materials near the entrance gates or along the roadway is prohibited. Individuals caught dumping in these areas will be fined.
