Here are some recommendations from the Youth Services Staff at Peter White Public Library.

Miss. Sarah's Read
"Tuck Everlasting: The Graphic Novel" by Natalie Babbitt, adapted by K. Woodman-Maynard (JGN BAB). What a great way to introduce a new generation to the classic "Tuck Everlasting"! The adaptation is true to the original story, with watercolor illustrations that do an excellent job of conveying the mood of the story. Adults who read the original will enjoy revisiting the Tuck's and Winnifred, and children new to the book might be inspired to hunt down the original book after reading this new adaptation.

Ms. Marissa's Read
"Woods & Words: The Story of Poet Mary Oliver" by Sara Holly Ackerman (J921 OLIVER). This lovely and lyrical picture book biography explores the life and work of poet Mary Oliver. Oliver was a prolific and observant poet who had a gift for describing the sometimes-overlooked details and beauty of the natural world with words. Anyone wanting to share their love of Mary Oliver poetry with little readers will find delight in this basic biography with sweet illustrations.

Miss Claire's Read
"The Hundred Steps" by Holly Wilson (JFIC WIL). Go back in time to 1950s Marquette, when Lower Harbor Park was a neighborhood for families of fishermen and boat workers, and a 100-step wooden staircase connected them to the wealthier neighborhood on the hill around East Ridge Street. Marcy McKay lives near the ore dock on Lower Harbor and is the proud daughter of an officer aboard The North Star freighter. While anxiously awaiting her father’s return from Detroit on the dangerous Lake Superior waters, Marcy has plenty of worries of her own. Her mother wants her to date the upper-class boys uptown, but what if she loves the boy next door? Who will be her date to the dance? What will happen when she gets caught up with the wrong crowd of troublemaking kids? How can she maintain her friendships with kids of different social classes as tensions rise between the groups? Although this story is fictional, it's filled with lots of real historical elements of Marquette, making it a fun read for locals.

Ms. Holli's Read
"Renegades" by Erin Hunter (JFIC HUN). This new series from Erin Hunter has been eagerly anticipated by both upper elementary & middle grade Warrior Cat fans! Follow sisters Luna and Willow in the modern city as they find magical powers, animal alliances and human witches. This series is written in a simpler tone which can be better for some and a departure with less depth for others Warrior fans. The next book in this series will be released in November 2026.

Ms. Grace's Read
"Unicorns in Uniforms" by Beth Ferry (JE FER). Unicorns are heroes and everyone can be a unicorn. They are chefs and teachers, mail carriers and firefighters. Join the rhyming fun as the unicorns protect the village and keep it running until it's time to celebrate with the Unicorn Parade! Add this colorful picture book to the collection of any unicorn lover and celebrate the hard work of real-life heroes.
