Youth art program to be offered

MARQUETTE -- Young artists in the area will soon have a free monthly outlet to explore their creativity, courtesy of the Lake Superior Art Association.
Starting this fall and running through May, the LSAA is hosting “Art Make & Take for Kids and Families,” a hands-on art series tailored for students in second through eighth grades. Sessions will take place on the third Saturday of every month from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Studio 1, located downstairs at the Peter White Public Library.
Each workshop focuses on a different core Element of Art and is led by a certified or retired art teacher. All necessary supplies are provided at no cost by the LSAA, and no pre-registration is required. Families are simply encouraged to show up--though bringing a paint shirt, apron or old T-shirt is highly recommended to protect clothing.
The series kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a workshop centered on printmaking. Participants will carve custom designs into foam boards using pointed dowels, apply printmaking ink with rollers, and press their creations onto paper or canvas tote bags. Attendees can layer multiple prints and use fabric markers to craft intricate, colorful designs.
Note: Canvas tote bags for the kickoff event are limited to the first 30 participants in attendance.
