NEGAUNEE - Helen Barabe, a member of the senior class, is the newly elected president of the St. Paul High School Student Council, Sister Mary Angelica, principal, announced today. Election of new officers climaxed a strenuous week of campaigning at the parochial school last week, during which candidates displayed posters and distributed tags in attempting to gain votes. Eleven candidates delivered campaign speeches before a general assembly Thursday morning. Other nominees for president included seniors Ilene DeGabriele, Timothy Coyle, Walter Turino and Joseph Brisson.

MARQUETTE - One of 17 high school students in the state of Michigan selected as winners in an essay contest, Chauncey Moran, senior in the Baraga high school here, is answering questions these days about his 10-day trip as a reward in the contest. He was one of the two winners in the Upper Peninsula district -the other being John Warren of Ironwood. Writing on "Mackinac Island," the 17 students winning recognition in the contest made a free trip to the island, Detroit, Lansing and other Lower Peninsula points. They also were taken on a short cruise of the Great Lakes. A special $25 prize for the best newspaper story of the trip was offered by Mr. and Mrs. Andrews of Menominee. Chauncey Moran's story, published in The Mining Journal, was selected as the winner.
