MARQUETTE - Sgt. Michael Dooley today warned pedestrians, particularly students, that they are not permitted to hitchhike or walk on streets in Marquette. Dooley said the two streets on which many violations occur are N. Fourth and N. Third Sts. On several occasions this week, he stated, police were called out because students not only were hitchhiking and walking on the streets, but actually obstructing traffic. The situation also occurs on other north-south streets, he added, but not as often. "We seem to have the most trouble with Fourth and Third Sts." he said.

ISHPEMING - The continued safety campaign and installation of modern mining machinery have cut down this year's lost-time accidents in the Cleveland-Cliffs iron company's mine operations to a mere fraction of what they were 20 years ago. In 1916, with 3,067 men employed, there were 584 lost-time accidents. For the first eight months of 1936 with 2,047 men employed, there have been only 28 lost-time accidents. As a climax to the entire record not one single lost-time accident was reported in August. It is one of the most remarkable safety records of any major mining company and reflects the results of long and earnest effort to foster safety methods throughout all mining operations.
