L’ANSE -- The Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region, a regional planning and economic development agency serving jurisdictions throughout Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties, on behalf of the L'Anse Area Community Development Corporation, is soliciting proposals from qualified architectural and engineering firms to perform design and build services for the Winkler Building at 833 Sicotte St., L'Anse.
This project will produce a single, stamped architectural design suitable for final engineering and redevelopment of the Winkler Building into residential apartments, including options for mixed-income housing.
This initiative is funded by a Rural Readiness Grant received from the Michigan Office of Rural Prosperity.
This proposal is the next step in the long process of planning and preparing to create apartments within the former nursing home. "Every Michigander deserves an affordable, quality place to call home," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The LACDC is striving forward to support and assist with that need.
