Spanish Club sale today

By Bud Sargent 2 min read

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Senior High School Spanish Club is having a garage sale from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Singletrack Health, 107 W. Main St., Marquette, to help fund the 2026-27 exchange program. All items are donation or pay-what-you-can after noon.

Here is a quote from Katelynn Jensen, Spanish teacher at Marquette Senior High School and MSHS Spanish Club advisor:

“MSHS Spanish Club is gearing up for its fourth Costa Rica Exchange in the 2026-2027 school year. MSHS partners with Liceo Experimental Bilingüe de Pococí in Guápiles, Costa Rica, every two years for a cultural exchange between students from both schools,” said Katelynn Jensen, Spanish teacher at Marquette Senior High School and MSHS Spanish Club advisor. “Through an on-going exchange between MSHS and LEBP, students will take their learning of Spanish outside the classroom by developing connections and friendships with young people from Costa Rica.”

Their guests from LEBP will visit Marquette in December and January of this school year. During that time they will be hosted by MSHS Spanish students and their families.

While host families will take care of meals and transportation for the visiting students, participating MSHS students and the MSHS Spanish Club are raising money to cover other costs associated with hosting such as visiting local museums and outdoor activities, game nights, a weekend excursion to a regional city, and visiting nearby schools.

Any remaining money will be used to offset the cost of MSHS students’ travel to Costa Rica in March and April 2027 for the second half of the exchange. In addition to the garage sale today, students and their families will have other fundraisers throughout the fall such as our annual coffee sale and guest bagging at Super One Foods.
