ISHPEMING -- A pair of Michigan Department of Transportation projects will launch Monday, according to MDOT officials.
In the first, MDOT will spend about $153,000 to replace a culvert on M-28 east of South Agate Road in Ontonagon County. The culvert has reached the end of its service life. The work includes backfill, slope restoration and repaving, which will extend the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists.
During the period of the project, one lane of alternating traffic will be open in the work zone using temporary traffic signals or traffic regulators. MDOT estimates that the project will be completed by Aug. 21 and will support one job.
A second project will be centered in Keweenaw County, costing about $330,000 to replace culverts on US 41 south of Washington Mine Road. Work will include replacing the worn-out culverts with concrete elliptical culverts, backfill, guardrail, slope restoration and repaving, extending the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists.
US 41 will be closed to through-traffic from the M-26/US 41 intersection in Phoenix to Copper Harbor, with a posted detour onto M-26. US 41 will remain open to local traffic on both sides of the project area. The detour is expected to last until Aug. 14.
Based on economic modeling, this project is expected to support three jobs.
