NEGAUNEE -- Organized labor leaders in the Upper Peninsula will gather at Jackson Park on Monday, Sept. 7, for an annual Labor Day celebration anchored by a simple premise: everything is better in a union.
The public event, which runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., seeks to bring together local workers, families and community members for a day of solidarity, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. Designed to highlight the tangible benefits of union representation in today's evolving economy, the event will feature food trucks, live local music, corn hole tournament for union members, and kids activities.
"With Labor Day around the corner, it is the perfect time to highlight the ongoing advantages of labor union membership,” said event organizers in a statement. “As we celebrate the contributions of the modern workforce, it is equally important to acknowledge the vital role unions play in fostering the history of our region."
Organizers emphasize that union membership goes beyond formal representation, offering workers direct leverage in negotiating wages and workplace safety standards. As industries adapt to rapid technological and economic shifts, organized labor remains a cornerstone for working-class empowerment throughout Marquette and Alger Counties and the broader Upper Peninsula.
“Standing with a union means advancing a movement dedicated to fairness, dignity, and real progress for all workers.” says Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 2 President, Adam Saari.
Admission is free and open to all members of the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to Jackson Park.
