ISHPEMING -- Work to replace a culvert on M-28 Business Route east of South 7th Street in Ishpeming is expected to start Wednesday, Aug. 12. Work will include backfill, slope restoration and repaving.
The projected cost of the project is $112,000. Traffic restrictions will include one lane of alternating traffic will be open using traffic regulators. An 11-foot lane width restriction will be in place in the work zone.
The culvert in question has reached the end of its service life. Its replacement will extend the lifespan of the roadway and increasing safety for motorists. M-28 BR lane closure starts Aug. 12 for this culvert project.
It’s estimated that the project will conclude Friday, Aug. 21.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $112,000 to replace a culvert on M-28 Business Route east of South 7th Street in Ishpeming, Marquette County. Work includes backfill, slope restoration and repaving.
And in a second, separate effort, routine bridge inspections on structures in the eastern Upper Peninsula are scheduled from Monday through Friday, Aug. 10-14, dependent on the weather
The inspections, which will help ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the bridges, will require intermittent lane closures.
• Monday and Tuesday: The Heath M. Robinson Memorial Cut River Bridge on US 2 in Mackinac County will have lane closures under flag control 8 a.m.-4 p.m. both days.
• Wednesday: The I-75 Business Spur (Portage Avenue) bridge over the power canal in the city of Sault Ste. Marie will have shoulder closures 8:30-11:30 a.m. The I-75 Business Spur (Ashmun Street) bridge over the power canal in Sault Ste. Marie will have traffic shifts from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Aug. 13 and 14 are contingency dates for work in case of weather or other delays.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is overseeing both projects.
