Whitmer makes appointments to boards and commissions
LANSING, Mich. -- Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced appointments to state boards and commissions and included two Upper Peninsula residents among the appointments.
• State Historical Records Advisory Board
Annika Peterson, of Ishpeming, is the incoming university archivist for Northern Michigan University, where she currently serves as the UPLINK digital project manager. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Science in history and mathematics from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in history from the University of Rochester, and a Master of Library Sciences with a focus in archives from Wayne State University. Annika Peterson will be appointed for a term commencing Jan. 1, 2027, and expiring Dec. 31, 2030. Peterson will succeed Lindsey Hiltunen, whose term will have expired. The State Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and for National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)-funded projects in the state. The Board acts as a coordinating body to facilitate cooperation and communication among historical records repositories and information agencies within the state and as a state-level review body for grant proposals that meet NHPRC grant program guidelines.
• Michigan Opioids Task Force
Greg Toutant, of Negaunee, is the chief executive officer of Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Inc. Toutant holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Arts in clinical counseling from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. Greg Toutant is reappointed as a representative of PIHP region 1 for a term commencing July 23 and expiring June 14, 2029. The Michigan Opioids Task Force was created as an advisory body within the Department of Health and Human Services and consists of 12 members of the executive branch of state government. Members of the Task Force are ex officio members and serve at the pleasure of the governor. The director of the Department shall designate the chairperson of the Task Force.
