HARVEY -- On Monday at approximately 8:34 a.m., Chocolay Township Police Department officers were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident on M-28 near the Alger County line.
Initial reports stated that the driver was trapped in the vehicle and that the vehicle may have been smoking. Quick acting citizens were able to get the driver out of the truck and to a safe location.
An investigation showed that the truck was traveling east-bound on M-28 and left the roadway to the south. The truck struck a large tree, which caused the truck to stop abruptly. The driver was transported to Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette for medical treatment.
M-28 was shut down to one lane while the truck and tree were removed. The accident is still under investigation.
Chocolay Police were assisted on scene by MDNR, Chocolay Township Fire, Marquette County Sheriff, UPHS EMS, Alger County EMS and Ben's Towing. Chocolay Township would like to extend a thank you to the citizens that stopped and rendered aid.
