CRYSTAL FALLS -- The Upper Peninsula Notable Book Club: The Crystal Falls Community District Library in partnership with the U.P. Publishers & Authors Association has scheduled author events with winners of the UP Notable Book List.
The 61st event via Zoom is with Mikel B. Classen, “The Yooper History Hunter,” “Piracy on the Great Lakes: True Tales of Freshwater Pirates” contains dozens of stories of robbery, kidnapping, and mayhem. Each story is well documented by newspaper accounts, meticulously restored photos and lithographs, and gripping first-person diaries recorded a hundred years ago.
Classen is an award-winning author, historian, photographer and publisher whose passion for the U.P. shines through every project. He’s the author of “Grand Island: Island of History and Mystery,” “Points North: Discover Hidden Campgrounds, Natural Wonders, and Waterways of the Upper Peninsula” and “Yooper Ale Trails.”
Join organizers for a final sail on the USS Michigan, the only ironclad steamship on the Great Lakes as she dishes out justice to those who would threaten life and commerce in the wild Midwest.
The Zoom event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Central Thursday, Aug. 13.
