MARQUETTE – Marquette County will study how much it would cost to pay probate court workers for being on call at night and on the weekends. The in-house review was ordered by the Marquette County Board’s Committee of the Whole Tuesday after four unionized probation officers and two non-union supervisors asked for compensation.

MARQUETTE – Unemployment in the eastern half of Marquette County was up slightly in June over May totals, but was much lower than in June last year. According to Frank B. Paitl, manager of the Michigan Employment Security Commission’s Marquette office. Some 353 persons were seeking work here in June. This total included 132 women and 76 veterans. In May, he said 302 were looking for work and in June last year unemployment rolls listed 486.
