MARQUETTE -- From 1-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Mattson Lower Harbor Park, there will be the annual UP CityServe event. This year we have a medical focus particularly addressing the health needs of Upper Peninsula communities.
This year, UP CityFest is initiating a healthcare event called UP CityServe Health Fair. The UP CityServe Health Fair is a free community outreach initiative organized by UP CityServe to address the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of individuals and families across the Upper Peninsula.
This large-scale event brings together healthcare professionals, churches, local organizations and volunteers to provide free health education, preventative care, and screenings for common diseases. Attendees will have access to resources that promote healthier living, including guidance on nutrition, healthy eating, and organic gardening.
There will be lectures from physicians, surgeons, dentists, physical therapists, sports medicine trainer, nutritionist, botany expert on organic gardening, healthy cooking and much more. The dentists will be going dental screenings. A chiropractor will be available for consultations and minor treatments. The fair will also distribute essential items such as medicines, basic medical supplies, dental supplies and wellness resources at no cost to participants.
By combining practical healthcare services with compassionate community support, the UP CityServe Health Fair seeks to empower residents to take proactive steps toward healthier lives while ensuring that vital resources are accessible to everyone in the community.
Yes, there'll be a children program with all kinds of kid's games, including a puppet show, skits, coloring books, face, painting, petting zoo, and more. A cornhole tournament is planned.
What's different about this year is that we have a fenced off secure area with a secure check-in for children so that the parents can attend the health lectures and know that their children are being taken care of.
After the health fair activities, which will run from 1-4:30 p.m., there will be a free meal for guests at 5 p.m. During the meal, there will be music provided by Kingdom kid's choir, a local band and following that nationally known singer, Jon Micah Sumrall, the lead singer of Kutless will be singing.
It is a free event and organizers still need volunteers. It is supported by local businesses, individuals and churches.
