“Summer State of Mind” by Kristy Woodson Harvey (FIC HARVEY) is a heartfelt escape to coastal Carolina. After possibly the worst day of her professional life, Daisy, a burnt-out ICU nurse goes off to Cape Carolina, North Carolina to look for a new life, and possibly romance. On her first day at her “simpler” job, the baseball coach at the high school, Mason, discovers an abandoned baby. Sparks fly as Mason introduces Daisy to her new town and Daisy must deal with some past issues just as Mason will too. The ultimate beach read, “Summer State of Mind” would be good if you enjoy summer romance reads.

“Ironwood” by Michael Connelly (FIC CONNELL) continues the Catalina series with this second installment. Detective Sergeant Stilwell is posted on Catalina Island, separated by 22 miles of ocean from the troubles of Los Angeles County. But now a threat is coming to his safe haven. While secretly investigating a drug deal gone wrong, he finds a valuable backpack that was never claimed in the lost and found at the sheriff’s substation. He follows the mystery all the way back to the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit and Detective Renee Ballard. Both work the case from each side of the channel, but how far does this case reach? Thriller and mystery readers will enjoy this one during this summer.
