MARQUETTE — Although it’s scheduled to be built next week, Marquette’s Build A Dream playground project still needs volunteers for all work shifts, organizers said. Construction of the 12,000 square-foot playground at Mattson Lower Harbor Park is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning. Some 100 volunteers are needed for each of three daily shifts that run from 8 a.m. to noon, 12:30 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Lunch and super are provided for workers throughout the five-day project. Although workers are needed for all shifts, there is a particular need for volunteers Wednesday morning and afternoon, Friday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

MARQUETTE — The Catholic Diocese of Marquette today joined the three other Catholic dioceses in Michigan in committing their multimillion dollar purchasing power to the national movement for racial justice and equal job opportunity. This was the first step in implementing the Project Equality program endorsed last year by the Michigan Catholic Conference and initiated in May 1965 by the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit under Archbishop John F. Dearden. It was decided that henceforth all companies doing business with the Michigan diocese would be required to advise them of their equal employment opportunity policy and practices. Future contract awards for goods and services will be based on the merit employment practices of supplier as well as the usual requirements of price quality and service.
