New physician hired at BCMH
Dr. Leah Abbott
L’ANSE — Baraga County Memorial Hospital has added Dr. Leah Abbott to its medical staff.
Dr. Abbott brings extensive experience in family medicine, hospice and palliative care, geriatrics and long-term care medicine. Board-certified in both Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Abbott has a special interest in caring for older adults and supporting patients and families through all stages of life.
She earned her bachelor of science in biology from Wayne State University before receiving her medical degree from St. George’s University. She completed her family medicine residency through the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program and later completed a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
In addition to her role at BCMH, Abbott will serve as medical director for Bayside Village, Canal View and BCMH Home Care and Hospice. She will also provide medical oversight for the hospital’s Swing Bed Program. Her experience and dedication to caring for older adults make her a great fit for these roles.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Abbott to our team,” said Rob Stowe, CEO of Baraga County Memorial Hospital. “Her knowledge, experience, and dedication to caring for patients and residents will be a tremendous asset to our organization. We are fortunate to have someone with her background leading our long-term care, home care, hospice and swing bed programs.”
Originally from southeastern Michigan, Abbott now lives in Negaunee with her husband and their pets. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling, reading and spending time outdoors in the Upper Peninsula.
