Freedom monument to be installed at Harlow Park

MARQUETTE — The Freedom Monument podiums have been installed at Harlow Park (corner of West Washington Street and North 7th Street) within the Veterans Memorial Mall in Marquette. A formal dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. July 4, as a part of the American Legion Post 44 Independence Day event.

In addition to their commemorative function, the granite podiums will serve as a platform for ongoing education and civic engagement, offering space for community groups and classrooms. The project was made possible by the Katers family of Marquette and supported by Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral Home, Sunburst Memorials and the American Legion Post 44.

The podiums were inspired by Ron Katers, who was committed to helping others understand their history, culture and civic opportunities.
