MARQUETTE – Reggie and Lyn Durant celebrated 50 years of marriage on Friday. The couple first met on Third Street in 1975 while Lyn was working at the old Marquette Bakery and Reggie was traveling selling beauty supplies for the shop next door (located at the now Bodega).
They were married in 1976 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette and in 1982 they welcomed their daughter Kristin. In the early 1980s, they both were working at The Mining Journal which eventually led to Reggie taking his first promotion as publisher of The Daily Press in Escanaba. From there, they were transferred to Worthington, Minnesota, Marshall, Texas, Beatrice, Nebraska and downstate Adrian.
In 2005, Reggie retired from the newspaper business and he and Lyn purchased the Cedar Motor Inn from Reg’s uncle, Bud Kellan and Aunt Eleanor Keranen. With the help of Kristin, they were able to keep the Cedar Motor Inn in the family for over 50 years.
Finally, in 2020, they sold the hotel both officially retired. Lyn keeps herself busy as Marquette Township supervisor for the last 10 years while Reggie enjoys hunting, biking and skiing. In 2013, they had their first grandson, Oliver, and in 2019, their second, Owen. Both love their Nana and Papa dearly.
Congratulations to you two on 50 years of marriage!
