NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Snow, temperatures near freezing and frost, that sounds like a late fall or early winter forecast, but it’s the situation in Marquette today. In fact, the mercury actually plunged to 32 degrees at the Marquette County Airport in Negaunee Township, making it the coldest reading in the nation today. The overnight low in Marquette was 40, but the mercury kept dropping after daybreak and hit 34 at 10:15 this morning, the lowest reading here since it was 31 on May 13. The record for today, however, is 29, in 1894. It was snowing steadily after mid-morning in Marquette and in most inland places. The Copper Country also had snow. It was the first snowfall here in five weeks.

Starting at $3.23/week.
