MARQUETTE — The award winning musical “Haywire” returns to the Northern Michigan University campus for two performances “Haywire in Concert” will be presented on Saturday, May 25th at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage. “Haywire” features a libretto and lyrics by Dr. Shelley Roberts (Forest Roberts Theatre) and music by Dr. Roberts Engelhart (NMU Department of Music) and Russell Parks. The musical premiered on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage in October of 1994 as the NMU entry in the American College Theatre Festival. “Haywire” was selected to advance to the ACTF Regionals and played to a packed house at the Weidner Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin in January of 1995. The musical was then selected as one of only six productions from throughout the country to appear at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Preforming Arts in April as part of the National American College Theatre Festival.

MARQUETTE — Approximately 80,000 lake trout advanced fry, raised at the Thompson hatchery, were planted in Lake Superior near the mouth of the Chocolay river yesterday morning, it was the first and probably will be the only planting of fish near Marquette harbor this year. The fry, transported in 16 large cans, were dumped overboard from a Marquette coast guard station boat near the rocky shoals off Harvey point. The boat was in command of Captain Thomas E. Deegan. Marquette harbor commercial fishermen had requested the planting of fish this season and expressed their pleasure at the early response to their plea. Considerably delayed at the beginning of the season because of unusual weather and ice conditions, commercial fishermen report catches are none too large even now. Either that or Marquette residents are buying more fish that before, they explained. “No matter how large a catch we get we never seem to be able to keep ahead of the demand,” one of them pointed out. “Buyers clean us out at an early hour practically every day.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
