NEGAUNEE — Television weatherman Karl Bohnak will return to his old running grounds when he carries the Olympic torch next month in Milwaukee. “It’s exciting I ran back in my high school days in Milwaukee and to go back there and carry the Olympic torch is really neat,” said Bohnak, WLUC TV-6 meteorologist for eight years. Bohnak will run with the Olympic torch in Milwaukee area on June 3 because WLUC TV in Negaunee Township is an NBC affiliate that will broadcast the Olympics. He is believed to be the only Upper Peninsula resident among 10,000 torchbearers nationwide.

MARQUETTE — As ‘mag’ racket season opens, Chief of Police T.T. Hurley urges housewives to call police if suspicious of solicitors. Already, he explained, other upper peninsula cities have been invaded by salesmen who claim they are working their way through school by selling magazines. When Marquette residents are confronted by such a salesmen, Chief Hurley said they should ask to see his identification card issued by the Chamber of Commerce office. Persons whose suspicions are aroused by the sales talk of a canvasser or believe his “spiel” is not entirely based on facts, are requested to call the police.
