MARQUETTE — Volunteers are needed May 11 to count birds in Alger and Marquette counties as part of a migration bird census. Observers may count wherever they like, and for as long as they like, keeping track of all birds seen. Counters should contact county compilers to receive tally sheets and to indicate their survey locations to avoid double counting.

K.I. SAWYER — Work on roads from the Air Force base east to U.S. 41 near Skandia was resumed recently, base and road officials reported this week. Begun last year and slated for completion by fall, the project will provide more than 10 miles of new road connecting Sawyer’s housing area with U.S. 41. It is being financed jointly by the Michigan State Highway Department and the federal government’s Bureau of Public Roads.
