Rock and mineral club getting together

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St., in Ishpeming.

Ashley Quigley, a geologist with the Michigan Geological Survey will present, “Reading Earth History: The Role of Core Libraries in Public Interest, Private Industry and Academic Pursuits.” Core libraries are a very important state asset and can be utilized for many different purposes. Michigan has two core libraries and the Michigan Geological Survey draws useful data from both repositories for a multitude of public interest projects.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. to allow members and visitors time to bid on silent auction specimens and to view the club’s mineral collection. The program will start at 1:30 p.m. A door prize drawing, a 50/50 drawing and a business meeting will follow the program.

Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy and learn about the wonders of rocks and minerals. There is no admission charged.
