Get ready for our Summer Reading: Unearth a Story! Check out all the new dinosaur books in Youth Services. I’ll be highlighting a few here that may catch your eye, but all summer long you can unearth a dinosaur story of your very own.
“Field Trip to Dinosaur Valley” by John Hare
Follow a young student on their wordless adventure back in time to learn about the dinosaurs. This book is only illustrations, opening the story up to just be viewed, or to play along with your own personal narrations. Though the trip goes wrong when our protagonist falls away from the rest of their class, they find ways to have their own adventures and make dino friends along the way!
“Sky & Ty Howdy, Partner!” by Steve Breen
The origin story of a young cowgirl named Sky, and her partner Ty, an orange T-Rex. This graphic novel is short and sweet, with bitesized chapters that are easy to pick up and put down or devour all in one sitting! Sky and Ty has a clean two color art style for that open sky western aesthetic. With witty humor and out-of-the-box problem solving, I was rooting for the pair in all their endeavors.
“Go! Go! Dino!” by Kaz Windness
Get ready to read! This level three easy reader is great reading practice for the dino lovers out there. Dynamic art, rhythmic words, and a mix of those longer dinosaur names for practice. I enjoyed the silliness of the art and story, as they played into one another with the dinosaurs skating and wheeling across the page. Cute dino faces in a friendly race, what could be more fun?
“Lena the Chicken (But Really a Dinosaur)” by Linda Bailey
Deep down inside every chicken clucking around a coop, is a roaring dinosaur just waiting to pop out! Lena already knows this fact about herself. Lena knows that she is brave and smart and strong, it’s the other chickens that aren’t so sure. Lena the chicken is a silly story book full of crazy illustrations and chicken shenanigans. I looked forward to flipping the page and looking for the little fuzz ball chicks bouncing around the scene. No matter what challenges are thrown at Lena she finds her inner dinosaur and ROARS all the doubters away!
“Who Would Win? Dinosaur Destruction: 4 Books in 1!” by Jerry Pallotta
The “Who Would Win?” collection has been expanded, and we have added a four in one binding of the craziest prehistoric battles! Pterosaur Battle Brackets, fun facts and definitions all packed into one ultimate dinosaur book. This book isn’t just about fighting though, we have sections on paleontology, archaeology and the tools used to discover real dinosaur bones. Learn about their bones and babies, their colors and designs, and what it must have been like to live as a dinosaur.
