Local receives Eagle Scout award

Ian Galbreath

MARQUETTE — Ian Galbreath of Boy Scout Troop 372 recently received the Eagle Scout Award with 1 palm at a Court of Honor at First United Methodist Church.

His parents are Kim Fryzel and Kurt Galbreath. Kurt was also Ian’s Scoutmaster for most of the Boy Scout years. Ian had a full Scouting experience beginning in Cub Scout Pack 395 where the Arrow of Light Award was earned and attended Cub Scout Resident Camp at Camp Hiawatha.

Galbreath’s Boy Scout years were highlighted by a canoeing high adventure trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, a 50-mile backpacking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the “Pack and Paddle” National Youth Leadership Training based at Camp Hiawatha, and the 2023 National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. Galbreath’s Eagle Scout Service Project involved refurbishing 100 music stands and building 8 new band stands for the Marquette Senior High School band.

Galbreath graduated from MSHS in 2025 and completed the freshman year at the University of Michigan. This summer, Ian will work at Tomahawk Scout Camp in Wisconsin and then return to the U. of M.

Galbreath selected Rich Mathews, the current scoutmaster of Troop 372 to receive the Eagle Mentor Pin.
